Why become a FAB Member?

 

Volunteering as a FAB (Fighting Against Bullying) member provides many opportunities for social and professional development. The FAB team will have an active part in reducing bullying and contributing to a more positive, safer and caring environment within the school. FAB members are important role models for other children in the school and will help them built friendships and conduct themselves in an exemplary manner.

 

Job Responsibilities


 Raising awareness of bullying in school.

 

 Leading playground activities at lunchtimes to promote interaction and confidence building.

 

 Supporting lonely children.


 Helping new pupils to settle well into school.


 

 Building positive relationships with children.


 Promoting anti-bullying around the school through events.


 Providing a quiet area for all children to visit if they need to chat or are feeling sad.


 Checking on referred children to see if they need any support at lunchtimes.

 

How will students be selected?

 

 Job descriptions published on the Newport website and notice boards.


 Applications list published to staff and recommendations requested in support of students


 Students interviewed using the common consortium set of questions


 Students selected using interview and staff recommendations

FAB Job Description

 

Appointed by: Senior Leaders & School Council


Responsible to: Saira Riaz & Eva Freytas-Sanchez

Principle staff links: Assistant Head and classroom teachers.

 

Key Skills

 

 Active listening skills.


 Problem solving and dealing with difficult situations.


 Confidentiality and boundaries.


 Caring and helpful.


 The ability to establish and nurture collaborative work relationships with both staff and children.


 Good interpersonal and communication skills.

 

 The ability to work two hours weekly, at lunchtimes.


 Reliable and well organised.

 

The role:

 Attend all meetings/trainings as directed.
 Organise and promote playground activities.
 Supervise Friendship bench where children can come and read a book or just have a chat.
 Work in a team.
 Spend some lunchtimes producing publicity materials such as posters/leaflets.
 Report any cases of bullying to a member of staff immediately.
 Reaching out to lonely and troubled children.
 Meet once a week for meeting with Pupil Advocates.
 Model appropriate professional attitudes and behaviours to children, staff and community.
 Help to organise anti-bullying events
